The Member Aid Officer is Tom Watson. He is available to answer your questions on prototype and modelling matters or general topics, or he can put you in touch with someone who can.

To complement Tom’s prototype knowledge many members have offered to make their specialist knowledge available. A full contact list is made available to new British Region members. There are over 50 Railroads covered, from the Bay Area Rapid Transit to the Western Pacific.

Volunteers have also made themselves available to assist with modelling queries, topics covered being Brass Locomotives, Live Steam, Plastic Diesel, Loco Mechanisms, S Scale and Structures.

Several Railroad Historical Societies have also covered in the Member Aid Programme as well as a range of general topics such as advice on Magazine Production, DCC, Railfanning and Travel Advice.

Magazine Searches

The Region usually offers a magazine search service to its members as part of Member Aid. This is based on a computer database of magazine articles. This service is currently suspended as new arrangements are worked out.  We now hold a DVD with all Model Railroader issues on and a number of titles are available on-line (Rail Model Journal and Model Railroading).  Other magazines are being distributed to members to hold.  An update on the location and procedures will be posted here in due course.

Members making use of this service are asked to be as specific as possible regarding their enquiry. If the enquiry involves a lot of paperwork it is reasonable to expect the recipient to contribute to any cost.

If a particular issue of a Magazine is known, copies can be loaned out provided the member subscribes to Region Services as part of their membership.

Membership of the NMRA also allows access to the Kalmbach Library in Chattanooga, which has a huge collection of reference material.
